“Summer Madness” is upon us. We are hitting over 100° and climbing. Too many of our wonderful Canadian friends are “getting out of Dodge,” selling their homes, and heading home with no plans to return. Any wonder why? We will miss them, and I suspect some of us wish we could go with them! Their most recent Prime Minister elections confirmed that their Democracy stays intact! Ours continues to be torn apart by Republican support at local, state, and national levels the President.

 

Here on the home front, protests led by many groups including 50501, Indivisible, The Blue Bubble, among many others are on the forefront of raising awareness and focusing our voices locally and across the nation. At an Indivisible meeting recently, I heard a statistic that if 3.5% of the populations rise together to protest their government action, it will stop them.

 

Our own Republican LD29 House representative Steve Montenegro has been playing gamesmanship to cut budgets and other social programs including disabled children to fund private school  vouchers. We’re participating in a recall effort to put him on notice that he is not representing us. Please sign the petition. Grand Dems will announce where and when signing events are held.

 

We continue to recruit Precinct Committeepersons (PCs) to represent the Democratic Party in our own neighborhood Precincts. We currently have fifteen openings with fourteen filled. Come join the fund. Email Bob Walling at granddems@gmail.com for more information.

 

Our last meeting of the summer is May 28 with representatives from Indivisible and Save Our Schools (SOS) presenting. We’ll pick up again on September 24 with Secretary of State Adrian Fontes as our featured speaker.

Campaign candidates are starting to announce and will be invited to meet you. We will continue protests, startup Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) efforts over the summer. Stay tuned to www.granddems.org, Events and our emailed announcements for latest information.

 

The Grand is a premium active lifestyle community. We are upper middle to upper class residents who will not be largely impacted by his actions. Many of us have financial wherewithal to manage the havoc his actions and policies will reign on America. We are the 1-10%, most of us white and privileged, that will do well regardless of what economically he does to America. But all in Grand, Surprise, Maricopa County, Arizona, and the United States of America are not so, and while Republicans, I believe, do not care, Democrats do.

 

What are you, my progressive friends, willing to do to stand up and be counted for American liberty against a seemingly Fascist Dictator? After all, that’s what he is gaming for.

 

With his majority in Congress which has fallen lockstep in line with him as leader, He has fired and installed personal loyalist in every seat of government “enforcement” branches. Military, Department of Justice, Homeland Security, and the Border Control, FBI/ATF, plus other cabinet positions. If he were to declare martial law, where would the checks and balances be?

 

Certainly not Congress. The Supreme Court? Democratic States might resist but are in no position to counter the US military!

 

This is a very serious time in America, not one to be ignored, nor sit on the sidelines. The 1930s had a big Fascist wave with Charles Lindberg, Henry Ford, and Father Charles Coughlin,  among others. We may be entering that period again and can’t let our guards down.

 

We must win the 2026 midyear elections to turn the tide on Trump demigods and elect Democrats to Congress and the State Legislature. That will take willing candidates, money donations to the Grand Dems Victory Fund, DNC (Democratic National Committee) , DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) and DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee) , AZ Democratic Party, Maricopa County Democratic Party, Candidates for every office and our LD29 Democratic Party. Yes, that’s a lot of groups but each group and the individual candidates work to win elections. Suzi and I donate to each gladly because we know it’s critical to support our Democracy. I urge you to join us financially in supporting important Democratic causes. We can’t depend upon billionaires, George Sorus or J.B. Pritzker,  to carry us through. They are  doing their part. We need to do ours!
